Finding all the air intake vents

Look carefully on the outside of your computer case because manufacturers install vents in different places. The most common place for an intake is on the front of the case. There are sometimes holes stamped out of the metal back of the computer. These holes act as intakes. If there are any card slots open and empty, these can act as air intakes, please cover them up.

How to tell if a fan is an intake or exhaust

Take a tissue and hold it over the opening. If the tissue sucked to the holes, it's an intake. If it starts blowing away, it's an exhaust.

Cleaning the computer first

We recommend cleaning your computer's inside before installing PuraPC. You can have this professionally done at a computer store, or you can do it yourself. Whatever you do, do not use your household vacuum cleaner, as it has high levels of static electricity that can discharge into your computer. We recommend blowing out all the dust with compressed air out of a can. You can purchase these cans at any computer of office supply store.

How to wash / dry your filter(s)

All the included filters and filter materials in PuraPC are washable. When the program reminds you to change your filter, follow these steps:

My filter isn't dirty when the program tells me to change it

This means that the time interval which you selected to monitor your computer's filter is too low. Go to the Change Settings selection in the PuraPC popup menu by your computer's clock. Select a higher value.

Was I supposed to install both brackets?

It all depends on your computer. All computer manufacturers make different cases with different intakes. Some PC cases don't have intake fans, just vents and therefore the brackets won't be used, only the filter material. We have included the two brackets because they are the most common shapes. We also included extra filter material to be cut to a specific shape for a custom intake.

Can I put the brackets over exhaust fans?

We advise against this. There is little evidence that shows PuraPC stops brominated fire retardant dust from entering your workspace. PuraPC was designed to stop dust from entering your computer, not stopping dust from leaving your computer.

Can I leave my computer on all the time?

Yes, you can leave your computer running all the time; servers have to be and PC's can, too. PuraPC only monitors your computer's on time and you are protected with service reminders.
